My Favorite Things

My husband and I moved to Texas from the Detroit area in 1996. So, while not a native Texan, I have spent most of my life here. I LOVE the Lone Star State! Check out some of my favorite home service providers and favorite things about the area!

*** AREA YOUTH SPORTS ***

  • My kids did everything from football to basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics.
  • Frisco Football League is great to get kids going. They offer flag for the littles and tackle when they are older. Usually coaches are dads, most are pretty good with the kids. Girls can also try cheerleading through FFL.
  • Frisco Soccer Association is a great place to get your kids started in a recreational league.
  • North Texas is a great place to be for academy/club soccer! FC Dallas has fabulous facilities/programs, Solar Soccer Club, Sting, Texans, D’Feeters to name a few. Many club players also play area high school and North Texas produces State Championship programs. For extra training, I like Paradigm Soccer out of the north Dallas area and Justin Pickney from FC Dallas Performance (anyone can train with both).
  • Baseball is a big north Texas Sport with great clubs and facilities. Frisco Baseball & Softball Association is a great place to start kids in recreational baseball. As they move to the club level, I like the Dallas Tigers, Dulins Dodgers, DBat and Stix.
  • The YMCA has a great youth basketball and volleyball programs. If in Frisco, you might also check out The Fieldhouse for basketball. There are several clubs for both.

*** SHOPING, DINING, ENTERTAINMENT ***

Frisco (I live here!!)

  • Roughriders baseball – go out to eat before the game unless you want $$ ballpark food.
  • FC Dallas professional soccer (they have an outstanding youth academy as well).
  • J Theodore restaurant and speak easy.
  • Frisco Square and the historical downtown, Jake’s for burgers, Best Thai on the Square, Testa’s Pizzeria, Sake Toro Sushi, Didi’s downtown.
  • La Hacienda Ranch (but it’s gotten popular and expensive) – go early and get a Mariano Margarita which is the best in town!
  • Mud Bugs on 423 is a small Cajun dive, very good but go early because last call for food and beverage is usually 9:00.
  • The Frisco Diner on DNT between Main/Eldorado for breakfast.
  • PGA/The Omni shops and restaurants.
  • The Star for high school football and soccer and their shops and restaurants.
  • Stonebriar Mall.
  • Frisco Merchantile – such a fun place to shop, it’s like a treasure hunt for home decor, clothing, jewelry and gifts!

McKinney

  • Historic downtown shops and restaurants.
  • I specifically like The Yard – cool little indoor outdoor eatery and bar great for lunch or a casual dinner when the weather is nice. Expect to wait!

Celina

  • I love the historic downtown and old Texas feel although it is growing and changing fast!
  • Eden Hill winery is a peaceful setting where you can enjoy good Texas wine outdoors on the vineyard in cooler months or in their tasting room during the summer. Eden Hill has great events throughout the year.
  • The Wooden Penguin, a fun wine/beer on tap bar with garage doors and a fun outdoor setting, food trucks.
  • Tenders BBQ – there is a location in Frisco too but IMO the Celina location is much better.
  • Lucy’s on the Square is a great home cooking type of restaurant (but not for the super health conscious).
  • Tractor Supply for dog food and other gardening needs.

Prosper

  • The Gin in a fun bar/restaurant with a big patio.
  • Yard Art for outdoor living furniture and accessories.

Plano
